Lions 18 – Colts 17. Another last drive win by Stanton

The Detroit Lions faced off on Saturday at home against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.  With the starting corners for Detroit out, I expected Peyton to light up the defense but that wasn’t the case and the game was pretty good.
Veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper started the game and finished 7 for 12 and 67 [...]

Colts @ Lions, Rumors and Rambling

Lions veteran quarterback, Daunte Culpepper, will get the start this afternoon against future HOF’er Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.  Culpepper will play for a quarter and a half with the “starting” team but the wide receivers will all cycle through and get a bit of playing time.  Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford will come in [...]

Rumors and Rambling

Sources claim that the Lions claimed linebacker/defensive end Orion Martin off waivers.  Martin was undrafted and played defensive end for Virginia Tech.

WR Dane Looker had a go at kicking duties today when Swayze Waters had a tight hamstring.  Looker went 4 for 4 and made one from 43 yards, into the wind.  Dane may get [...]

The Lions Congregation

Sorry for being absent the last week or so.  I’ve been gone and unable to update much.  It didn’t help that the game against Cleveland was not on and I had to attempt to dvr it.  Too bad my kids decided recording Disney was more important than the game so I’ll rely on others to [...]

Jason Hanson has knee surgery

Lions pro-bowl and eventual first ballot hall of famer kicker, Jason Hanson, had minor knee surgery.
“The idea was, rather than let it linger and turn into something that was going to nag him all season, which it most likely would have, we decided to do it now why we had a little bit of time,” [...]

Lions 27-Falcons 26 on last second Hanson field goal.

The Detroit Lions won their first pre-season game today against the Atlanta Falcons 27-26.  Jason Hanson kicked a 47 yard field goal as time expired.  It’s nice to see a mark in the win column, even if it is only pre-season.
Here are a few random thoughts about the game.
Keary Colbert and Aveion Cason need to [...]

Detroit Lions – Start of Pre-Season

Detroit will take on the Atlanta Falcons today in the first 2009 pre-season game (Live at 4pm on the NFL Network and for excellent in-game discussion, go to Pride of Detroit’s game thread. POD is one of the best Lions blogs on the net).  The Lions are coming into the 2009 season with a new [...]

Culpepper to start against Falcons

Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper will start against the Falcons on Saturday.  Rookie Matthew Stafford will come in sometime in the 2nd quarter.  Drew Stanton will also get reps on Saturday.
“Don’t read anything into it,” insisted Schwartz, who said he does not have a timetable for naming a No. 1 quarterback.
Stafford said the team’s three quarterbacks, [...]

Four days until pre-season!

Lions defensive end Jared DeVries was placed on IR today after suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.   It’s a blow to the Lions although I had thought that DeVries would back-up Avril and probably play mostly on rushing downs and in the red zone.  It’s tough to see any player injured and the Lions are [...]

Training Camp Week 1 – Rumors and Rambling

After a rough, wet, week battling flooding here in Louisville (8″ of rain in about 6 hours), things for us are getting back to normal. Hopefully the updates will be more frequent unless, of course, we get more major storms through in the next week.

One week into training camp and the Lions faithful are [...]

Mid Day Rumors and Rambling.

Coach Jim Schwartz, LB Julian Peterson and many other Lions players are giving rookie QB Stafford high praise.  He’s progressing nicely, making some surprising throws and doesn’t look like a rookie.
“The kid threw a no-look pass,” Peterson recalled Wednesday, shaking his head. “I was shocked! Calvin just so happened to drop it – he was [...]

Training Camp is finally here!

Saturday was the official start of 2009 training camp for the Detroit Lions.  There are great expectations by many for the Lions this season.  I’m just hoping for that first elusive win which will be a major victory for Detroit after how last season panned out.  The 2008 season is in the record books and [...]
