Rumors and rambling

Detroit signed former Lion defensive tackle Chuck Darby today.  Darby was cut by the Lions in training camp.  This could be an indication that Sammie Hill is a more injured than the Lions have let on.  To make room for Darby, the Lions released cornerback Marcus McCauley.

The Lions have a legitimate #2 wide receiver [...]

LIONS WIN!!! 19-14 over Redskins

The Detroit Lions won yesterday against the Washington Redskins, 19-14.  This is their first win since Dec. 23, 2007.  Almost 2 years.  The joy for Lions fans is immense.  I have been patiently waiting for this moment and it was all I had hoped for.
The Lions lead going into the half [...]

Week 3 – Redskins @ Lions

Even after last weeks fiasco against the Vikings, folks have been talking this game up all week giving props to the Lions even though the ‘Skins are favored.  It will be a tough game as the Redskins have a pretty good defense and an average offense.  The Skins are ranked 10th overall on defense, [...]

Rumors and rambling and ranting (ok, mostly ranting)

I didn’t think it would take long for this to happen in Detroit.  The evil word – blackout.  It happened in Jacksonville last weekend.  It’s also happening in Oakland and almost happened to San Diego this weekend as well.  It will continue to happen this season and the NFL has refused to do anything about [...]

Week 2 – Vikings at Lions

After a mostly dismal performance in week one, the Lions return to Detroit for their home opener against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
One of the keys to showing improvement from week one will be the need to stop Adrian Peterson.  Saints back-up Mike Bell torched the Lions for 143 yards.  Peterson is considered the [...]

Rumors and Rambling

The Lions managed to sellout their first home game, against the Minnesota Vikings, and avoid a blackout.  The Lions still had 4,000 tickets left on Wednesday and were granted a 24-hour extension by the league because they had it down to only 1,700 tickets by 1 pm on Thursday.
“We need our home-field advantage,” Lions coach [...]

The Lions Congregation

Sorry for not posting recently but we’re swamped at work and I never seem to get out of the place.  I should be back more regularly starting in the next week or so.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see more of you as the season progresses.

New Orleans Saints 45 – Detroit Lions 27

The Detroit Lions lost to the New Orleans Saints Sunday afternoon by a score of 45-27.  I’m not going to extol on their improvement from last year nor am I going to lambaste their faults, which were many.  There are several good posts going over the play-by-play or discussing the good, the bad and the [...]

Season Opener – Lions @ Saints

Week 1
Sunday, 9/13  at New Orleans Saints in the Superdome.
The Saints offense finished last season 1st in points, passing yards and total yards while finishing 28th in rushing.  Their defense faired much worse, finishing 26th in points, 23rd in pass yards and total yards and 17th in rush yards.
They’ve made multiple changes this offseason [...]

Rumors and rambling

Lions back-up quarterback Daunte Culpepper is saying all the right things after Matthew Stafford was named the starter for the Lions.
"I support the decision and I am ready to settle into my role. Matt is a great guy and a talented young quarterback. I am confident that he will lead this team to plenty of [...]

Stafford named starter, cuts, rumors and rambling

The Detroit Lions named rookie Matthew Stafford as the teams starting quarterback.  The QB “controversy” between veteran Daunte Culpepper and Stafford has been raging since Stafford was drafted at #1 in this years draft.  Coach Schwartz must believe him ready and a better option than Culpepper.
Schwartz said Stafford won’t have to look over his shoulder [...]

Cut Day – edition #1

Unfortunately, I’ll be out all evening at the Louisville Cardinals football game beginning around 2:30.  I won’t find out much until I get home after midnight.  In the mean time, the Lions have cut running back Aveion Cason and defensives tackles Chuck Darby and Lydon Murtha as well as kicker Billy Cundiff.  Hanson is getting [...]

Final cut deadline approaches – rumors and rambling

The final cut deadline is fast approaching.  All teams must be down to 53 players by 4pm on Saturday.  The Lions have some tough decisions to make and I would expect them to also be heavy in the waiver wire come Saturday evening.

Detroit started  making moves today by trading an undisclosed draft pick in 2010 [...]

My selections – Lions projected roster, starters.

The final cuts down to 53 players happens on Saturday by 4pm.  Here’s my thoughts on who will be starting, backing up or sent packing.

75 and counting down. Rumors and Rambling

The Lions needed to trim their roster from 80 to 75 by today.  To fulfill that requirement, Detroit has released wide receiver D.J. Boldin, safety LaMarcus Hicks, linebacker Robert Francois and defensive end Ryan Kees.  They also placed cornerback Dexter Winn on injured reserve.

The next step in [...]
