Lions suck in 48-3 blowout by Ravens
*/Wow. I’m not sure where to begin here. The Lions looked like a pee-wee team playing out there today. It was a totally embarrassing game that made me wish the season was already over and we could start looking to the future. I don’t think I can handle 3 more weeks of this crap.
The first thing that should be done
is Daunte Culpepper needs to be cut. Now. Not tomorrow, but right the heck now. He’s washed up as a starting NFL quarterback. He has never won a game for the Lions in 8 tries. He is slow, makes poor decisions and can’t throw the ball accurately, much less farther than 10 yards, if that. He’s a worthless member of the team and needs to be gone. He was supposed to show his stuff today as an audition for teams in 2010. I doubt he’ll get picked up in the CFL or UFL. Gone. Now.
Play Drew Stanton. Sit Stafford for the last three games. Why take a chance of him being injured any further. I would also sit Calvin Johnson. No sense in risking either of them the rest of the year.
Why was Kevin Smith still playing in the 4th quarter? Senseless injury. He had no business still being in the game. K-Smooth is probably out for the remainder of the season, pending an MRI on Monday.
The team needs defense. Suh would be a nice draft pick-up. He probably won’t make it to the 3rd pick, which is where the Lions will probably be. The secondary, with the exception of Delmas and occasionally James, sucks. This is the biggest need in the offseason.
I’m surprised coach Jim Schwartz didn’t have a stroke on the sidelines today. He was furious on the sidelines for most of the game and looked like he wanted to kill someone on almost every play, on both sides of the ball. I imagine there will be some butts ripped and possibly some changes coming before next week. I’d have liked to have been a fly on the wall in that locker room after the game.
I won’t do a play-by-play after the fact. I did that during the game on POD. It was hard to do as it just kept getting more and more depressing. The only bright spots so far this season has been the coaching staff (with the exception of Stan Kwan, who needs to be gone next year), and the rookies from the draft. Stafford, Pettigrew, Delmas and the others have stepped up pretty well this year and bode well for the Lions future.
I’ll have more as the week progresses. The Arizona Cardinals come to Detroit next week. I expect them to destroy the Lions secondary and easily win this game it they play anything like they did against Baltimore.
