Lions – The Week in Review
*/- The Lions released veteran fullback Terrelle Smith on Wednesday and claimed guard Roy Schuening off the waiver wire. Schuening was a 5th round pick by the St. Louis Rams in 2008 and only played in one game as a rookie and spent most of the ‘09 season on Oakland’s practice squad.
In other moves, the Lions signed snapper Nathan Hodel and released rookie tight end Dan Gronkowski. They also re-signed CB Jahi Word-Daniels to the practice squad and signed CB Brian Witherspoon off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. I had hoped Gronkowski would be given a chance to play and he could still be signed to the practice squad if no one picks him up off waivers. - Cincinnati Bengals troubled WR Chris Henry was killed in an accident in North Carolina earlier in the week. Prayers to his family.
- Drew Sharp is a friggin’ idiot. Here’s responses from Coaches Schwartz and Linehan. He needs to go the way of Rob parker, another idiot. When will the Lions get a decent beat writer to cover them? Idiots.
- WR Calvin Johnson, QB Matthew Stafford, S Louis Delmas and long snapper Don Muhlbach have not practiced this week. I wouldn’t mind one bit if they sit Stafford and CJ the rest of the year. No sense taking any chances. They could even sit Delmas. I’d rather they were healthy next year.
- Once again, the Lions are blacked out locally in the Detroit area. The Metro Detroit area will get Dolphins-Titans 1pm on Channel 62 and Fox will show the Packers-Steelers game at 4pm. This is ridiculous. With the horrible economy, especially in areas like Detroit, the NFL needs to re-evaluate it’s black-out rules. Most folks can’t afford to go to games anymore.
