Aaron Curry, Outside Linebacker, Wake Forest

Curry is a big play linebacker and can defend and attack from both inside and outside very well.  He covers a lot of ground quickly and does very well against both the run and pass.AaronCurry Detroit could use a stud like Curry to team up with Sims and Dizon.  That would be a pretty decent LB corps.  Aaron won the Butkus Award in 2008 which honors the nation’s top linebacker.

Strengths:
Extremely athletic, can play all 3 linebacker positions. Excellent tackler and can shed blocks effectively and is a force at stuffing the run.  Plays both the pass and run with equal effectiveness. Had multiple interceptions every year as a starter including returning several for touchdowns.  Rarely out of position and has incredible blitzing skills.  Is very fast and is great in pursuit.

Weaknesses:
At 6’3” he could be a little taller for the position.  Doesn’t really seem to effect him much.  He can be over aggressive at times which can lead to him over pursuing his intended target.  He shows above-average range but doesn’t always get deep enough when needing to drop into a zone coverage and doesn’t appear to read routes well.

Aaron Curry is the #1 linebacker in the draft.  Even though no one has taken a LB at #1 since Atlanta took Aundray Bruce 1st in 1988, Curry would make an excellent selection and would be a big play maker for the Lions.

What are your opinions on Aaron Curry?  Top pick?  Top ten?  Let everyone know!
